Giants Reportedly Agree to Terms with Several Undrafted Free Agents
It took but just a little over an hour for the Giants to begin courting and agreeing to terms with several undrafted free agents, all of whom will be at the team’s headquarters in two weeks for the annual rookie mini camp, along with the seven draft picks chosen over the last three days.
According to various sources, the undrafted free agents that have reportedly agreed to come to the Giants camp include:
1. DE Matt Broha (Louisiana Tech)
2. S Janzen Jackson (McNeese State)
3. WR David Douglas (Arizona)
4. FB Joe Martinek (Rutgers)
5. WR Julian Talley (UMass)
6. DL Adewale Ojomo (Miami)
7. S Jojo Nicolas (Miami)
8. G D’Angelo McCray (Memphis)
9. WR Damian Davis (Mary Hardin-Baylor)
10. OL Stephen Goodin (Nebraska)
Keep in mind that the players might not have officially signed, as they must pass physicals, which they’ll receive when they arrive at the Timex Performance Center for the start of camp on May 11. Until then, it’s possible that these players could change their mind and go to other teams.
One player that the Giants did confirm as having signed though is Martinek. Director of College Scouting Mark Ross said, “We had him at the local day, obviously. We have been at tons of Rutgers games. He is just a gritty, hard-nosed football player. He has played fullback; he has played running back – done whatever they ask. He worked out really well. He can really catch the ball; a guy that you can throw in at any position there in the backfield and he will not miss a beat.”
Martinek is listed at 6-0, 224 lbs., which is small for a NFL fullback. So I don’t think incumbent Henry Hynoski’s roster spot is in any danger, though I suspect Martinek will provide relief for Hynoski during summer camp.
One other note. The Giants only have 10 roster spots left to fill in order to his the 90-man training camp maximum. The rookie mini camp will certainly feature a lot more than just the draft picks and the ten potential UDFA signees so the above list is subject to change.
