Draft Comes and Goes, and Osi’s Still an Unhappy Giant
Just days before the NFL Draft, defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who has long been unhappy with his contract, speculated if perhaps his days as a member of the New York Giant were ending.
It turns out that any hopes he might have had about finally getting his big pay-day had no basis , as the Giants apparently didn’t receive any offers for the 30-year old pass rushing specialist.
While General Manager Jerry Reese said the team would keep its options open regarding Umenyiora, he also revealed that the team has offered the defensive end a contract extension for two years in a row, only to be rebuffed.
“Our first choice with respect to Osi is that he will play for the Giants and retire as a Giant. That is what we would like to happen,” Reese said after the Giants concluded their 2012 draft. “Osi has been offered an extension two years in a row now. So we would still like to make it work. Hopefully, it will work out. But all of our options are always open.”
