Giants Looking to Create Some Space Atop of the NFC East
The Giants haven’t always been a team that’s seized every opportunity presented to them as far as the playoff race, but this weekend, they’re hoping to turn things around and create more space between them and the Washington Redskins in the NFC East.
The Redskins, 5-6, moved into second place in the division thanks to their 38-31 Thanksgiving Day win over Dallas. With the Giants set to host Green Bay on Sunday night, if New York, 6-4, can snap their two-game losing streak against a very good Packers team, they would take a two-game lead in the division, making their following game, which is at Washington, a little less stressful.
“Obviously when you see the game, you want to take advantage of the opportunity and take advantage of the chance to go up two in our division, and that’s what we want to do,” said receiver Victor Cruz.
Head coach Tom Coughlin, however, has tried to stress to his team that every game from here on out is a big game and that it’s important to keep their eye on the next opponent on the schedule.
“They’re all big games,” he said. “All we’re looking at is this opponent on Sunday night. We’re well aware of what happened yesterday and quite frankly, it doesn’t make it any easier, so here we go. Take care of your own business. That’s what I learned a long, long time ago.”
“We don’t really pay attention to it; we just worry about what we can do,” added running back Ahmad Bradshaw. “We just want to take advantage of it right now. It’s a big opportunity so why not?”
“Our job is to be the best that wed can be,” said safety Antrel Rolle. “We only want to live up to our own expectations because they’re higher than anyone can ever imagine. We try to go out there and put on the greatest show every week, and capitalize and regroup from the past couple of weeks we’ve had.”
Cruz believes that the week of practice was a good one and that the team is on the right track as far as putting an end to their recent slide and getting back to putting forth the best possible effort.
“This week feels good,” he said. “Everybody feels like they’ve been on the same page and we’re doing some good Things, so let’s see if we can switch up the luck a little bit this week.”
