Giants to play all-AFC preseason schedule for fifth straight year.
Here is a breakdown of the New York Giants’ 2017 preseason schedule, featuring two home games and two road games, all against AFC opponents. Except for the game against the Browns, which will be nationally televised on ESPN, the time and dates of the other games will be announced later.
Week 1 (Aug. 10-14): Pittsburgh Steelers
The Giants and Steelers will clash for the third time in five years, and the second time in a row in New Jersey. The Giants lead the preseason series, 15-12. The two teams last met at MetLife on Aug. 9, 2014, a 20-16 Giants victory.
The Giants lost 24-14 to the Steelers in the regular season last year, a game played at Heinz Field.
Week 2: Monday, August 21: at Cleveland Browns (nationally televised)
In Week 2, the Giants will visit the Cleveland Browns to play a game that will be broadcasts nationally on Monday night, August 21. The Giants, who last year beat the Browns in Week 12 of the regular season (27-13), last played Cleveland in the preseason in 2008, a 37-34 Giants win.
Week 3: August 24-26, vs. New York Jets
The Giants will host the Jets this year in the annual “MetLife Bowl.” The Giants and Jets, who share MetLife Stadium, have alternated in their roles as host for this annual summer classic in which the two teams have met every summer for the last 49 years, typically in the third week of the preseason.
The last time this game was not played in the third week of the four-game preseason was in 2012, when the two teams met in the second week of the preseason (a 26-3 Giants win).
Week 4: Thursday, August 31: at New England Patriots
The Giants will close out their 2017 preseason schedule against the New England Patriots for the 13th year in a row. The Giants and Patriots have annually capped their respective preseason schedules against each other every year since 2005, alternating venues.
The Giants won last year’s meeting, a game played at MetLife Stadium, 17-9.
The 2017 NFL regular season schedule will be released the week of April 17.
