The Giants announced they have signed free-agent punter Taylor Symmank.
Symmank, 6-2, 195 pounds, played his college ball with Texas Tech, where he was the career record-holder in gross punting average (43.6 yards). During his senior season in 2015, he punted 33 times and averaged 46.0 yards, the second-best single-season mark in school history.
Symmank originally was in the Vikings rookie minicamp in 2016, but didn’t join the team until the following year. He has never punted in a regular-season game. During the preseason, he averaged 42.9 yards – gross and net – on nine punts for the Vikings. He also placed five balls inside the 20-yard line.
Symmank will compete with veteran Riley Dixon, whom the Giants acquired from Denver via a trade on April 23, for the punting job.
