Giants eyes potential successor to Eli Manning, per a report.
The New York Giants apparently had more than a passing fancy for former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
According to a report by ESPN, the Giants attempted to trade up to take Mahomes in the first round of the NFL draft.

Head coach Ben McAdoo had personally attended Mahomes’ pro day on his way back from the league meetings, and apparently was sold on Mahomes skillset to want him as the next quarterback of the team.
Unfortunately for the Giants, Kansas City jumped up from No. 27 overall to 10th overall to grab Mahomes as a successor to Alex Smith.
Before the draft, there had been some whispers that the Giants were interested in moving up in the draft to take Mahomes.
General manager Jerry Reese and head coach Ben McAdoo both declined to confirm if those rumors were true when they met with the media after the selection of Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram.
Multiple reports have since come out contradicting the report by ESPN.
