Transactions | Giants Place Keenan Robinson on IR, Add OL John Greco

The New York Giants have again had to tweak their roster due to injuries.

New York placed linebacker Keenan Robinson (quad) on injured reserve and waived defensive end Devin Taylor. They also made official a move reported earlier in which they waived receiver/return specialist Ed Eagan and promoted receiver/return specialist Khalif Raymond from their practice squad.

In addition to Raymond, joining the Giants on the 53-man roster will be linebacker Akeem Ayers, who was part of a linebacker group that worked out for the team last week, and veteran guard John Greco.

Ayers, 6-3 and 247 pounds, has played in 91 regular-season games with 51 starts for Tennessee, New England, the St. Louis Rams and Indianapolis. He has also played in three postseason games, including Super Bowl XLIX with New England.

A second-round draft pick out of UCLA by the Titans in 2011, Ayers has 306 tackles (211 solo), 15.5 sacks, 22 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and four interceptions. He also has 15 special team tackles.

With Robinson done for the year and linebackers Devon Kennard and B.J. Goodson ailing, Ayers gives the unit depth.

Likewise, Greco 6-4 and 318 pounds, will help shore up a Giants offensive line that could have at least two members—Justin Pugh (back) and D.J. Fluker (knee) on this week’s injury report. Head coach Ben McAdoo said Monday thatPugh is likely going to miss some time after his back locked up on him again in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.

Greco, a third-round draft choice (65th overall selection) by the Rams in 2008 from Toledo, has played in 111 games with 70 starts for St. Louis and Cleveland. He has started 45 games at right guard, 24 at left guard, and one at center. He was traded to the Browns on Aug. 1, 2011. He was released by the Browns on Sept. 2 and then went to the Saints, but did not play in a game. The Saints cut him on Nov. 8.

The Giants also signed tight end Matt LaCosse and offensive lineman Nick Becton to their practice squad. LaCosse played in three games with one start but did not have a reception. He was waived on Saturday when fullback Shane Smith was added to the roster.

Becton, 6-6 and 322 pounds, played in one game for San Diego in 2013 and five for Chicago in 2015. He was on the Giants’ practice squad from Aug. 31-Nov. 4, 2014, and was most recently on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad from Oct. 23-Nov. 9.
